Originally known as The Miami Beach Municipal Auditorium, and later the Miami Beach Theater of the Performing Arts, this venue was used for filming television shows during the 1960s, amd became the home of the Jackie Gleason Show. Broadway shows were featured in the 1970s, and performing arts dominated the stage in the 1980s. During the 1990s the theater was more frequently used as a concert hall. Now operated by Live Nation, The Fillmore Miami continues to host some of the most popular entertainment artists.

In 2010, it was announced that the proposed expansion of The Miami Beach Convention Center may result in demolition of The Fillmore Miami.
